1/11/12 - Math Registration Information!

During the South East Junior High registration process, one of the choices that students and parents must make is which math class to register for.

Usually, after the pre-algebra testing is done (it's happening this week), a form goes home with information regarding ICCSD Mathematics Course Placement.

This year there is a glitch. And it must be a big one!

On the form there is a space for the "Iowa Assessment Math Score National Percentile Rank". The data for the Iowa Assessment has been delayed. I have no idea what the hold up is! I have been informed that the information may not be available until mid-February.

A form has been sent out showing the changes in placement this year. Unfortunately, since we have no Iowa Assessment scores, there's no way to know now what your student will be eligible for. Until then, to review:

Math 7A - Iowa Assessment score 25th percentile and below
Math 7 - Iowa Assessment score above 25th percentile OR
Iowa Assessment score + ICCSD placement test (if taken) = less than 155
Pre-algebra - Iowa Assessment score + ICCSD placement test (if taken) = 155 or more
Algebra - for those who participated in pre-algebra as a 6th grader

There is no teacher recommendation. The vast majority of students will be in Math 7.

If any questions, you can ask me, and if that is unsatisfactory, then you may contact Jan Hollis, ICCSD Math Coordinator: hollis.jan@iccsd.k12.ia.us
