4/25/12 - 6th Grade School of the Wild Reminders!!!

The following is the exact post I sent last year at this time:

With there being no school Friday, I am fearful of weekend brain freeze! So here's an early reminder of what you need for the week of School for the Wild at MacBride (this is from the handout you received recently):

Daily Student Supplies for the University of Iowa Macbride School of the Wild Fieldtrip Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
• A sack lunch and a drink will be needed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
• Students must wear long pants because of the ticks, prairie grass, and poison ivy. It is helpful if the students wear layers of old clothing, because the weather can change during the day.
• Students should wear old shoes or boots. Please bring an extra pair of socks and an extra pair of old shoes because we will get wet and muddy. It is helpful to have an extra pair of old shoes to change into.
• Students should wear a hat or bandana because of the ticks. They should bring sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
• Students need to bring a water bottle with them everyday. They will refill this water bottle during the day at the park.
• The students need to bring rain gear. The students will participate in activities in the rain.If there is lightning or severe storms, the students will be inside the University of Iowa Macbride Sailing Club Building that is located near the Blue Stem Shelter, on the field campus.
Things Students Should Not Bring Include:
• Anything that is not allowed at school is not allowed at the Macbride Field Campus School of the Wild. Electronic equipment such as iPods, cell phones, game gear electronic systems are not allowed. The Macbride staff and Lemme teachers have cell phones that they will allow students to use. The students are in canoes, wading through water, in mud and hiking off trail and these items could easily be lost or damaged. We encourage students to bring disposable cameras instead of digital cameras.
•Knives, pocketknives, hatchets, axes (any knife/tool) is not permitted according to the ICCSD policy and the Macbride Staff Rules.
• At Macbride fishing poles/fishing nets/tackle boxes will be provided by the Macbride staff for the students to use. This prevents personal fishing gear from being lost or damaged.
• Archery equipment and orienteering equipment will be provided by the Macbride staff for the students to use at Macbride School of the Wild. This prevents personal archery and orienteering equipment from being lost or damaged.
